Hail! Hail! Meadows Mustangs! Participation in athletics provides many opportunities to enhance The Meadows philosophy. Starting in Lower School, students receive physical education several times a week to better the mind-body connection. Sports are introduced in an age-appropriate way that translates to more competitive play in the higher levels. As students progress into Middle and Upper School, a greater emphasis is placed on specific skills.
In conjunction with the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association (NIAA), the Athletic Department sets policies and procedures that govern the spirit of competition at TMS. These policies and procedures require parental support, which are achieved through proactive communication. Athletic traditions are created and maintained through hard work and dedication to the program. Student-athletes and their families are an integral part of building this type of tradition at TMS.
The Meadows athletic program is built on four principles:
• |
Participation in athletics at The Meadows School is a privilege extended to every student who is eligible under the regulations set by the School and NIAA. With every privilege comes responsibility. |

With a full range of Middle School, junior varsity, and varsity sports, The Meadows provides the complete sporting experience for our student-athletes. The School has won 41 state championships in a variety of sports, and several of our student-athletes have gone on to compete at the college level. The Meadows School encourages a healthy school-life balance and many students participate in two to three varsity sports a year.
At the sixth grade level, the program encourages students to try all sports offered. Students work on improving motor skills, physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. At the seventh- and eighth-grade levels, many students start to specialize in particular sports of personal interest. The School has a strict no-cut policy, as every student who would like to can make a positive contribution.
The curriculum prepares students to have successful sporting experiences at the next level of competition. Exposing students to many different athletic opportunities in Middle School allows them to be better able to determine which sports they would like to pursue upon matriculation to Upper School. Student-athletes leave the Middle School athletics program with the skills and passion necessary to meet the challenges of Upper School athletics.
The Meadows School offers the following sports in Middle School:
• |
Fall: Football, Flag Football (6th Grade), Cross Country, Volleyball |

Positive leadership is recognized and praised on and off the field. The importance of good sportsmanship is a key focus of the program. Athletes are taught to respect their sport, coaches, teammates, and opponents.
Even though The Meadows athletics teams have enjoyed much success, TMS athletics is about much more than just wins and losses. TMS student-athletes learn the lessons of hard work, discipline, and teamwork in a supportive environment that consistently achieves excellence while always remembering that academics come first. The Meadows School is very proud of its athletic programs and the legacy of excellence which has been built upon the hard work and integrity of the student-athletes.
